Is there a way to prevent breast cancer naturally?

Did you know that eating a high-fiber, low-fat diet that includes fruits and vegetables help keep breast cancer in check? One possible reason is that fiber flushes out estrogen (high levels of which promote this sort of cancer) out of the body. A study done on patients with tis specific cancer in the U.S., showed that women who strictly followed a fiber-dense diet and reduced fat intake (meat, dairy, etc.) had significantly lower estrogen levels.

Statistics reveal that Japanese women have a much lower rate of breast cancer compared to American women of similar age. This could have a lot to do with diet since the Japanese have realized for centuries that adding seaweed and other sea vegetables to their diet keeps them healthy. They've got dishes, drinks, and even ice cream with ocean vegetables. Americans, on the other hand, have gotten used to eating processed food.

It is heartening to know that you can actually cut breast cancer risk by eating HEALTHY. And eating healthy includes having nutrient-dense sea vegetables or seaweed everyday. Sea vegetables contain the most number of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fiber than any other food in the planet! In fact, compared to soil-grown vegetables, seaweeds help inhibit abnormal cell growth by as much as 95%! Combined with exercise and lifestyle change, adding seaweed or ocean vegetables to your daily diet may still be your best bet to prevent breast cancer.

Mama mia, it's time for a mammogram
I had my first mammogram in March 2005, which was one living nightmare I will never forget. Nobody warned me about the immense pain! And all this to check on any then do the steps to prevent breast cancer? After my mammogram and a biopsy, I started researching about it. I should have done it the other way around.

There is the continuous debate over the importance of having a mammogram. What should you do?

1. Read up on the on-going debate over the importance of mammograms online for you to decide on your own.

During the mammogram, the breasts are pressed twice (per breast), and if are pre-menstrual, the pain is unbearable. I wasn't warned! So I am warning women out there, who do decide to take a mammogram, to make sure it's not done before their period.

2. Talk to your doctor or health practitioner about your concerns.

3. Ask a female doctor or a nurse to teach you the breast self-exam (BSE). Sometimes, how-to manuals are not good enough. Do this on your own once a month.

As for me, I've decided to do the monthly examinations and have a doctor do the exam every 6 months. The mammogram? I still shudder when I type it. Time for a mammogram? Not for me and not today. Let's make it an ultrasound instead.
